     Fun Home was quite an interesting book. I think we can all agree on that. One thing that stood out to me, though, was Alison’s references to Greek mythology when talking about her father and her relationship. It added so much to the book and the characters themselves because you had another lens to look at them through. I had wondered why she used so much Greek mythology in reference to Bruce, but thinking about it, it makes sense since the college class she took on Ulysses (Odysseus) brought her and Bruce closer together. Honestly, it also seems like an homage to him, referencing a time in their relationship that brought them closer together.      I have to say I really loved that Alison went full circle with the beginning and end of the book. I thought it was such a good parallel, especially after the journey Alison went through trying to discover her father’s identity. As you know, the book starts with a reference to the story of Icarus and Daedalus...

As we all know, Esther has gone through a lot on her journey. She travelled to New York for a fashion journalism scholarship and, while she was there, tried over and over again to identify herself and her true desires. Throughout all of this, we have been there with her, listening silently as Esther describes her thoughts of inadequacy and aversion to society’s normalized experiences, as well as people. To be honest, it’s pretty understandable since one of the main reasons for this is her depression. However, because her narrations often depict people strangely, we don’t always know whether she is exaggerating or telling the truth. Early on, when Esther was still hopeful of finding her place, she described Doreen, saying: “with her white hair and white dress she was so white she looked silver.
